Every registrar pays the same for a .com: $10.26 to Verisign plus the $0.18 ICANN fee — $10.44 in total. Cloudflare is the one registrar that charges you exactly that and not a cent more: no markup, no teaser first year, no renewal jump, by published policy. That makes Cloudflare Registrar the benchmark every other price in our comparison table is measured against. The catch is a single, clearly stated condition — and this review is about deciding whether it matters to you.

The price, and why it is real

Cloudflare can afford zero markup because the registrar is not its business — it is the front door to its DNS, CDN and security platform, which is where the company actually earns. Domains at cost are the invitation. That is also the condition: a domain registered at Cloudflare must use Cloudflare’s nameservers. You cannot point it at another DNS provider while it is registered there.

What Cloudflare does well

  • The price itself: exact wholesale cost on registration, transfer and renewal, with a public commitment to keep it that way.
  • No upsells at all. There is no cart of add-ons, no paid privacy tier, no renewal ambush — the checkout is almost boring, which is a compliment.
  • Excellent free DNS comes with the deal: fast, reliable, and the same dashboard as Cloudflare’s CDN and security tools if your site uses them.
  • At-cost transfers make moving a portfolio in cheap as well as renewing it.

Where it falls short

  • The DNS condition is absolute. If your setup requires another provider’s nameservers, Cloudflare Registrar cannot host the domain — this alone decides it for some technical setups.
  • Not every TLD is supported. Coverage is wide but incomplete; check your extension before planning a move.
  • It is a registrar, not a shop: no email hosting, no website builder, no hand-holding extras — and support on free accounts is ticket-and-community based, not a phone call.
  • One rival is currently cheaper: Spaceship’s subsidised $10.18 total undercuts even at-cost pricing for now (our Spaceship review explains the catch in that).

Who Cloudflare Registrar is — and is not — for

Best for: any website already using Cloudflare’s free DNS — which is a great many websites — and anyone happy to move DNS there. For them, this is the simplest recommendation on this site: the benchmark price with no renewal games.

Not for: domains on unsupported TLDs, setups locked to another DNS provider, or owners who want registrar extras and phone support in one account — Porkbun serves them better for $0.64 a year more.

The bottom line

Cloudflare Registrar is the honest floor of the domain market: $10.44, because that is what a .com costs. If your DNS can live at Cloudflare, there is no pricing argument against it — only a features one.
